KYB

Automated KYB

The manual version of KYB is a person looking up a company on a register by hand, one layer at a time. Automated KYB is a system doing the same walk - reliably, and at the speed a business actually needs.

Definition

Automated KYB - Running Know-Your-Business verification by querying official registers programmatically and resolving ownership chains algorithmically, rather than a person manually looking up each company and its shareholders one layer at a time.

What automation actually speeds up

The slow part of manual KYB isn't looking up one company - it's the ownership chain. A shareholder that's itself a company means another lookup, at another register, possibly in another jurisdiction. Automation removes the manual repetition of that walk, not the underlying complexity of it - a genuinely deep ownership structure still takes real work to resolve, automated or not.

What automation doesn't remove

A register that doesn't publish beneficial-ownership data, a fiduciary/nominee arrangement, or a jurisdiction with no accessible register at all are real gaps that automation can't resolve around - it can only report them accurately, rather than resolve past what the source data actually contains. See how Keizu determines a UBO for how those gaps get reported rather than silently skipped.

The risk of automating the wrong thing

An automated system that returns a confident-looking answer without distinguishing a fully-resolved chain from one that stopped partway is worse than a slower manual process - it removes the moment a human reviewer would otherwise have caught the gap. The reporting distinction between an exact, filed-percentage result and an unresolved or estimated one matters more, not less, once the process is automated.
